Independent Councillor Roy Gerstner recently posted on his Community Activist blog, that he is supporting me as a “‘Local’ – Well Informed – Active – Community – Candidate‘“.
I’m not usually one for blowing my own trumpet, but I do think this is one aspect which sets me apart from the other candidates.
So, I’d like to list some of the local organisations and events I am involved in:
- Whittlesey Town Council – elected 2023, serving for four years.
- WTC Planning Committee
- Ward councillor for the Coates and Eastrea Ward (including Turves) – Together with my co-ward councillor, Bob Wicks, we work tirelessly to support local residents, answering queries and problems.
- WTC Music On The Square Working Group – I have volunteered for this event for several years and am now the Event Lead for 2025, taking responsibility for the safe hosting f this event, which attracts over 500 visitors to the town.
- Chair of New Queen Street and Stanground Surgeries Patient Participation Group – I have been an active member of the PPG for some time and last year took over as Chair as the group moves into fund-raising activities to purchase new equipment for the surgery.
- Trustee and Secretary of the Whittlesea Society – a local history focussed group that meets bi-monthly. I also produce the bi-monthly newsletter for the society which is distributed by email, by hand and by post to the society’s members.
- Trustee and Committee Member for The Storer’s of Eastrea charity (The Herds and Bulls Grass Society) – an ancient grant-giving charity to relieve hardship for the people of Eastrea.
- Trustee and Committee Member for the Eastrea Village Hall Trust – the trust oversees and manages the excellent Eastrea Village Hall
- Editor and Producer of ’Eastrea News‘ – a quarterly newsletter deliver free of charge to every home in Eastrea, focussed on local news and events relevant to the local residents.
- Supporter of the Coates Village Community Living Room – a weekly coffee morning & ‘hub’ for local residents in Coates village hall, operated and run by Cambridgeshire ACRE.
That is by no means an exhaustive list – there’s so many things I am involved in. I sometimes wonder how I ever managed to find the time to work!
But, that is what Roy means when he said “Local – Well Informed – Active – Community – Candidate‘“.
