About
Barry Wainwright
Originally from Lancashire, I moved to Cambridgeshire over thirty years ago and have lived in the wonderful fens ever since.
I have served as a Town Councillor in Whittlesey, representing the Coates and Eastrea Ward (which includes Turves and the smaller settlements in the area) and have served on the Planning Committee since elected.
Being a Town Councillor is both rewarding and frustrating. I am not unusual in that I entered Local Politics because I wanted to make a difference, to improve the area I live in and love. It was quickly learned that there is little that can be done to address most people’s concerns at Town Council level. People are worried about the state of our roads, the lack of public transport, school places and the lack of investment in infrastructure to keep pace with the rate that new homes are being built.
I know I have developed a sense of what the residents of Whittlesey and the surrounding areas want from their councils – I can commit to working hard to help bring about real change to improve our area.
In my spare time(!) I act as Trustee and Committee Member for three local charities – The Whittlesea Society, The Storers of Eastrea and The Eastrea Village Hall Trust. I am actively involved in many aspects of village and community life and love getting out to local events and meeting my neighbours and local residents. I am also the Chair of my local surgery’s Patient Participation Group, so have a good understanding of the issues around healthcare access.
The Independent Team at Whittlesey
As well as myself, there are four other independent councillors in Whittlesey Town Council. Please support them as well!

Community Activist
A long standing member of Whittlesey Town Council and Fenland District Council. Roy publishes the immensely popular Community Activist site.

Bob Wicks
Independent Councillor – Coates, Eastrea and Turves
Former long-service RAF veteran, elected to WTC in 2015, re-elected 2019 along with being elected to FDC and re-elected to WTC in 2023. Ward councillor for Coates & Eastrea.

Financial Advisor (Retd.)
Eamonn works to improve our environment and practices reducing consumption, reusing, and recycling because the alternatives waste valuable resources and increase costs for individuals in our community.

Peter Bibb
Community Volunteer
The newest recruit to the Independent Group, Peter was elected in 2024 to the Whittlesey St. Andrews ward of Whittlesey Town Council and serves on the Planning Committee.
Peter undertakes a lot of volunteering with Whittlesey Tennis Club and Cricket Club.
